Cultivating Creativity & Enterprise

My journey through various career paths has been a constant source of inspiration, fueling a deep-seated entrepreneurial spirit within me. Each experience has offered unique perspectives on community, the workplace, and the driving force of human dreams. From my very first job, I've gathered knowledge and inspiration, nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset that empowers me through challenges. I believe we all have something valuable to offer, and I thrive on the challenge of sharing those contributions with the world. Growing up, creativity was always encouraged, from published poetry in elementary school to playing the trumpet in various bands, and even producing high school sketch comedy films. This foundation has made it difficult for me to be bored; there's always a new idea to explore. While some ideas remain personal amusements or feel too daunting to share, many have been brought to fruition—whether to test the waters, fill a need, or simply to bring them to life. One of my most ambitious concepts, 'Million Dollar Fist,' a vision for communal financial support, emerged a decade before I began to develop it.

Million Dollar Fist

Million Dollar Fist has evolved from an idea for a general sweepstakes type approach to a community empowerment effort. Communities typically do not view the pieces that define them as resources. The residents and businesses local to the municipalities are most aware of their community need yet support in times of need is often sought from government assistance. By leveraging local resources assistance and education can be timely and more relevant to the community members.

When I was in 6th grade, I began taking Shotokan Karate classes at the Westbrook Recreation Center in Maine. Our dojo was a basketball court in what was once the high school for the city. My sensei was starting out as a teacher to the local kids. He now has a great school in South Portland Maine (Dragonfire Martial Arts). Since those days, I've studied and practiced a variety of styles. Kids programs are very popular in this area and I wanted to provide something catered to adults who didn't feel comfortable sharing the floor with kids or in studios very much geared toward kids.

The Other Podcast

Recording oneself is a great way for one to practice and refine skills. As my career shifted to speaking in front of others and creating recorded content for education, I figured the best way to practice engaging with others was to have regular conversations outside of work. The Other Podcast was an opportunity to learn about modern recording - the days of the VHS camcorder were no more - and a way to force my hand in reaching out to strangers who wanted to talk. At the start, it was a high school friend and I catching up every week for an hour or so, but through The Other Podcast, I was able to meet and converse with a medium who is the gateway for everyone who dies, a comedian who struggles with PTSD and has developed great support programming, and a star from the movie, Manos: The Hands of Fate!

Genesis Materials

The name, Genesis Materials was prophetic - I didn't continue the path I started with distributing material handling products, but the process initiated some interests and connections that I have continued to cultivate. For me, Genesis Materials is a concept that I use as a practice tool for ideas. I began learning to use Artificial Intelligence (AI), finding ways that I feel comfortable marketing, and I found more ways to share ideas through documentation and recordings as I developed the "first" iteration of Genesis Materials. It was through the online store (that shifted away from material handling) that I started a Discord community of international Virtual Assistants who wanted to learn how to improve their technical skills. I hosted weekly meetings with people from the Philippines and South Africa. It was a great time of sharing cultures and business practice philosophies!

Led the coordination and communication for a complex, multi-million dollar project involving the custom engineering and delivery of 86 hydraulic lifts for airplane assembly, ensuring on-time delivery despite numerous design, production, and shipping challenges.

Business Intelligence System Upgrade

Spearheaded the modernization of a legacy business intelligence environment by consolidating data from disparate sources into a centralized MariaDB database and implementing Power BI, significantly improving reporting consistency and enabling data-driven decision-making for executive and management teams.

Transformed an underutilized CRM system from a basic rolodex into a comprehensive sales management tool by integrating modern reporting needs, developing backend processes, and leading extensive training, resulting in streamlined communication and enhanced data appreciation among sales representatives.
